 Hi Jerry

Slightly bad news I'm afraid.

Protos does have a run-time (HPSUSAN specific) that contains routines
for things like dates, Image and File access etc. Not 100% sure but I
also think it does screen handling in the same way.

We recently did an exercise to upgrade only a hand full of Protos
programs for a client upgrading to an A400. For this we had to re-place
all the Protos calls in the code with calls to replacement routines.
Wasn't cheap, but cheaper than paying support and the upgrade fees on
Protos.

Depending on how much Protos generated code they have, you have a few
choices. Either just re-write in ACU or MF COBOL. Work out how many
individual Protos calls there are, and re-write those so you don't have
to change the source. Or what may well be a more productive approach as
you no doubt won't need the Image calls anyway, look at something like
ACU that has a Library or routines that will some of what you want, and
re-engineer the code to access what ever new data structures you go for
to replace Image.

Regards

Alan
