Howdy,

So for a couple of days (days for Pete's sake) I've been trying to figger
out how to
redirect the Microfocus COBOL compiler to a different copylib directory than
the default.
Now one might ask oneself what has this nasty Unix/9000 stuff got to do with

HP 3000's. Listen my son and I shall tell....

So when they dropped this new HP Kayak (watta name) on my desk and screwed
up my mail thingy they also kinda/sorta did away with the ability to access
the HP
CD-ROM documentation. So I look at this URL and say "Yeah, OK, been there.
It's
just a bunch of Communicators and Express releases.".

Later I decided to live big and went to the site and behold the beauty -
it's all there.
Including 5 manuals on COBOL/HP-UX. Sort of noticed them on the CD but
didn't
pay much attention until today when I actually read the titles. Yep there
it was,
COBOL/HP-UX Operating Guide for the Series 700 and 800! Prowl about a bit
and there was my answer. I quickly back up the ladder to see how I got
there
and sure enouge it's MPE/iX Manuals for 5.0.

So here's my befuddlement:

1. What is HP-UX for 9000's doing under MPE/iX?

2. I check under HP-UX manuals and find no COBOL/HP-UX manuals but I do
find Allbase manuals. Does Allbase run on Unix? Never paid much
attention
     'spose it could.

3. I find everything from our CD (Nov 1996) under the 5.0 release but only
some of
what I expect under the 6.0 release manuals. Is this part of the
(something)
Ignite business I've seen on the list, where HP is only including
new/changed
     manuals?

4. Being as how 6.0 is the current version will the 5.0 books still be
there for
awhile as the 6.0 is not a complete set? How long is awhile?

What I need is a set of manuals in some secure place that is going to be
around
for awhile. I looked for a site map and spent some time looking for some
overview
of the doc.hp.com documentation and didn't find anything right "out front".
I'm so
far behind on this project now that I've *got* to get back on it. Does
anyone have
some insight as to what's up with HP and documentation?

Frustrated in Harlingen.
