By the way, regarding conversion of files from Roman8 or PC-8 or
alike (to cope with the handful of German "Umlaut" characters) one
might find the Posix utility TR (like translate) useful...

tr "abc" "ABC" < infile > outfile

...for example will replace all a's by A's, b's by B's and c's by
C's when reading from infile and writing to outfile. This can be
used to convert files when only "a handful" of characters have to
be remapped.

Of course, it will not be useful for Samba-converts-on-the-fly type
usage but when the usage context is something like "3000 generates
some files to be consumed by the PC users later on" then adding the
conversion step might be feasible.

Lars.

PS: It should also be possible to call TR.HPBIN.SYS from the CI.
