I am having DTC problems. I have a barcode printer that will print
fine from a DTC. However, the printer can send back status
information (out of labels, busy etc.) But I cannot get the DTC to
see the status string. When I connect an HP 700/92 terminal to the
printer, I can get the status string no problem. The printer seems to
be using some hardware handshaking. I connect the printer to a modem
port on a DTC48. When I try to enable hardware handshaking in NMMGR,
the validate says something like "HANDSHAKING FOR MODEM PORTS NOT
SUPPORTED FOR DTC48" and the validation fails. I assume the problem
is with the DTC48 as handshaking on direct ports is absurd.

In order to get the status string, I send a cntrl-A and I should
receive an eight byte string. My Fortran program just keeps timing
out on the terminal reads. If I connect the terminal immediately
after this timeout, all the status strings come flying onto the
screen.

HP support says this is a custom job and I will have to pay a
consultant to attach an unsupported device. I just need to know how I
can make a DTC48 modem port act like an HP700/92 terminal. I may be
getting a different terminal server and skip the DTC altogether like
many others have. Any help is greatly appreciated.
