I come from a German background too, but our family lived in Milwaukee, Wis.
Since the majority of Milwaukee residents were of German extraction, there
wasn't any discrimination against people of German descent. We did know
someone who was "blackballed" (couldn't get a job anywhere), but he was
making pro-Hitler speeches after we were in the war. It always helps to be in
the majority. Now I'm in a minority, by marriage, and being in the majority
is
better (but not as interesting).
