That is true under the "traditional" MPE file system (in which case, it would
be expressed FILENAME.GRP.ACT).

Yup.  For a while now MPE has had a Hierarchical File System.  You can go down
as many layers as you wish.  You can use upper/lower case.  You can use file
names longer than 8 characters.
