RE: Telnet Question

The solutions of scripting in WRQ/Reflections, QCTERM or PERL scripts
 are the common resolutions for this functionality with Telnet.

From the text of:  telntdoc.arpa.sys

 3)  The TELNET/iX Client may not be executed from a batch job or with
     input/output redirection.

Sorry for the news, I have not heard of any "MPE" only solutions, but
 someone out here may have an idea!
