Al,
We had same problem only a few days ago, We could connect to various ftp
servers inside our network via ftp but outside of our network, we were
getting the same message that you are getting. We worked with our network
team and did a process of elimination. In the end, we determined that the
problem was on the 3k side. To resolve it, I stopped our NS controller and
restarted it and voila! it worked. Assuming you use NS, the following are
the commands(You don't have to PAUSE):

!NSCONTROL STOP
!NETCONTROL STOP;NET=LAN1
!NETCONTROL STOP;NET=LOOP
!PAUSE 120
!NSCONTROL START
!NETCONTROL START;NET=LAN1
!NETCONTROL START;NET=LOOP
I had to do this at night(in a jobstream) with no sessions or jobs running.
Hope this helps.

Joe

Subject: [HP3000-L] ftp services from the HP3000 to an outside ftp
server

Good morning/afternoon/evening, based upon your locations.

I'm posting this after a fairly rigorous search of the archives.can't
seem to figure out what I'm missing.

HP3000/948, MPE/iX 6.0.0, running File Transfer Protocol [A0009001] (C)
Hewlett-Packard Co. 1990

When the ftp> open <ip address> command is issued to an ftp server
outside my tidy world, the 3k tells me
Cannot connect to host: .. (FTPERR 9)
Connection refused (SOCKERR).inside my network.(my PC to the 3000).it
connects, etc Just Fine.

Now..
What I Do Have.

JINETD.NET.SYS shows
26 :run inetd.net.sys
 27
 28 Reading configuration
 29 echo(tcp nowait MANAGER.SYS port: 7)
30 echo/tcp: Added service, server internal

 51 bootps(udp wait MANAGER.SYS port: 67)

 53 tftp(udp wait USER.TFTP port: 69)
 54 tftp/udp: Added service, server /SYS/NET/TFTPD
 55 ftp(tcp nowait MANAGER.SYS port: 21)
 56 ftp/tcp: Added service, server /SYS/ARPA/FTPSRVR
 57 Configuration complete
58 Received call for: bootps udp

61 stat on "/etc/bootptab": No such file or directory

65 stat on "/etc/bootptab": No such file or directory

All the following have no ACD's.

RESLVCNF.NET.SYS has entries for hp3k domain name and nameserver=default
gateway. I also added
the ip for the ftp server I'm trying to reach as a <nameserver> entry.

HOSTS.NET.SYS has my default gateway, DSL router/firewall and the ip for
the ftp server I'm trying to reach.

SERVICES.NET.SYS has ftp <ftp://ftp 21/tcp> 21/tcp as a record

PROTOCOL.NET.SYS is a copy of PROTSAMP.NET.SYS

INETDCNF.NET.SYS has the following as one of it's entries
ftp stream tcp nowait MANAGER.SYS /SYS/ARPA/FTPSRVR ftpsrvr

I also ran NETTOOL.NET.SYS ; RESOURCE ; DISPLAY and got :-) smiley's..

Now, as a fan of the New York Mets, I would have thought that I'd be
able to handle unlimited disappointment!

My disappointment limits are being tested..

As always, thanks in advance!!
