The "(U)" says "upshift the text from each record before comparing it
against "JEFF".  Thus, all of the following lines would be selected
for a change:

   Jeff Vance helps the users
   JEFF WOODS helps the users
   jeff kell helps the users

In all three lines, the "jeff"s would be changed to "SAM":

   SAM Vance helps the users
   SAM WOODS helps the users
   SAM kell helps the users

But...that's only if you omit the (P) ... that's not recognized by
QEDIT.

When in doubt about an obscure option, I'll usually do:

   open qedit.help.robelle
   list "P"(S)
