Problem solved, or at least temporary work around.  Thanks Rick, the
answer was the DBUGFIX command.  The RC loaded the command and things are
back to normal, at least until I reboot.  The RC informed me that there
is a patch coming out soon (MPEJXB4), which should permanently solve the
problem.

I'm not sure if this is the same problem, but we had a similar situation.
A
session will hang when
you go from block mode to character mode and then when going back to
block
mode from character mode.
There is a binary patch that temporarily resolves the problem. HPRC had
me
copy two files DBUGFIX and
DBUGIN. You would XEQ the DBUGFIX command file that invokes DBUGIN.  The
only problem
is that it has to be executed each time the system is rebooted. Haven't
heard of a permanent fix yet.
I would check with the RC. The sr# is 5003-321083. Hope this helps.
