From the Sort/Merge manual:
"IF two or more records are equal in all key fields, the original order of
the records in the input file(s) is used."
I'm not sure about the terminology. Perhaps "chronological integrity"? It
has enough syllables to sound convincing, anyway.

Subject: Sorting:
This got bounced by majordomo ecause it started with the word "List". Here
it is again.
List,
What is the term for whether a sort algorithm retains original record order
notwithstanding the sort keys (this is a computer science or math question,
I guess.)
Does SORT/iX have this attribute, and if so, how do I ensure it is honored?
thanks,
Dave Darnell
