I'd probably start with the MPE/iX 6.0 Communicator articles, which
will most probably refer to the new Samba chapter in "Configuring and
Managing Internet Services" manual (title might be slightly different).

Then move on to www.sambaix.com and jazz.external.hp.com for add'l
info, presentation materials, slides & screen shots, as well as tips
and tricks (e.g. regarding Windows Registry adjustments). And finally
explore the /SAMBA/PUB/html and /SAMBA/PUB/docs directories for add'l
documentation or reference materials.

However, you won't have to read all those materials to get it up and
running. The main step is to copy and adjust the sample config files,
start the server jobs (or put it under inetd), and do a few tests with
smbclient "loopback" and a PC then.

Oh, the ReadMe file in /SAMBA/PUB/samba7c.htm (and .txt) might also
be helpful, as it contains step-by-step info for setup and testing.

For background info on PC networking (NetBIOS etc), one of the Samba
books mentioned at www.samba.org can be quite helpful. I only have
read one of them (John Blair's) but found it highly educational (the
first few chapters with PC networking fundamentals).

>Also, how can I edit the smb.conf file when I don't know anything about vi ?

If nothing else helps, you can even use EDITOR.PUB.SYS with a trick:

:hello mgr.samba
:xeq /bin/frombyte "./lib/smb.conf SMBCONF"
:editor
 ...
:xeq /bin/tobyte "-at SMBCONF ./lib/smb.conf"

Always keep the file unnumbered in EDITOR. Posix does not know about
MPE numbered files (and won't like the numbers in the last 8 columns).

Once Samba is working, you can use a PC editor or the bbSAT tool that
was mentioned in another posting (and that can be located via Jazz).

Lars.
