Look at CPU, Memory , Disk and locks. Do you have metrics over time.
Was the CPU load higher than normal. Has it reoccurred. Most times
something like this might be related to some kind of lock conflict or
something like XM. Did an "event" occur like the purging of a file or
maybe the network was overloaded or maybe you did have some kind of disk
problem. If you have SOS then start running it in batch and develop
metrics over time to help identify what or whom is the cause and when it
occurs. Of course you could just be overloaded. Did you have a larger
than normal load such as more online users or more than normal
Supertool??? Does it always occur at the same time of day(whatever it
is). Define poor performance, bad response time, logoff time, mpe
command execution, poor batch job throughput. Are the databases in good
tune. Maybe a dataset is filling up or a dataset dynamically expanded.
When was the last time you resorted your detail chains. Did somebody
start running the batch input to MACS and raise the transaction load.

What has changed. New OS, new disks, new version of application, new
programmer, new patches????

I understand that Memory Read Hit % should normally be seen in the mid 90s % whereas ours has ranged between 58% and 72% over a 1 hour period.

Has anyone else experienced these symptoms before? In other words, do any of you have any magic bullets you can share with me?

We do 10 times (according to a highly regarded performance specialist we contracted for a performance study last year) the number of SUPRTOOL routines during each week than a normal system. We have half a dozen jumbo, waaaaaay-jumbo, datasets in our environment. Last month we replaced our old disk array with a new one with disks nearly 3 times as fast as the old one and some batch processes really improved while others stayed the same.
