It doesn't use GNU autoconf.  It relies on platform specific Makefile overrides.

Once upon a time, I did extensive HPUX debugging and patching to the UMich
LDAP code which is what the OpenLDAP code derives from.

It's a straightforward socket-based server daemon which shouldn't be too
difficult to port if somebody had the time to try.

The package also comes with various command-line utilities, including an
ldapsearch client.
