I'm looking for a new position (my group is soon to be RIF'd). Per the
current schedule, I'll be available October 14th. I'd prefer to stay in
the Washington DC area, but will relocate if the opportunity is right.

I've been with my current employer and in my current management position
for approximately 4.5 years. During that time my staff has grown by 50%, a
mostly manual operation has been heavily automated (using both MPE/iX and
Linux), production has moved from PC-centric to a client-server
environment, daily reporting is now automated and posted to an internal web
site, emailed, or FTP'd, and daily chart generation has been automated with
automatic posting to an internal web site.

I've been involved with the HP 3000 since 1978 (MPE II on a Series II) and
a list subscriber for almost a decade. Some of you probably remember my
old email address - j o h n k o r b a t l a s e r d o t n e t.

Briefly, in addition to management experience and entrepreneurial
experience, I have a variety of technical skills, including current
experience with (not in any order):

MPE/iX:
SPL and SPLASH!, Apache, Samba, Perl, Posix, Ploticus, Sendmail,
TurboIMAGE, HP Business Basic, HP BASIC, CI Programming, AIF's,
HTML (including CSS), MPE/iX System Management, PM programming

Linux:
Red Hat 9.0 & Fedora, installation, configuration, troubleshooting,
basic admin skills, basic shell scripting, standard utilities (grep,
    sed, etc.)

Windows XP Pro:
    Installation, network configuration, utilities, troubleshooting,
    VB 6 Pro, VB.NET

Hardware:
    HP e3000, PA-RISC (A500-140) and Classic
Intel and AMD PC hardware (construction from components,
       troubleshooting, upgrades, etc.)

Misc. Equipment:
Telco Systems Edgelink 300 channel banks (installation,
       configuration, monitoring, etc.)
APC Masterswitch (remote power controller with telnet and web
       interfaces)

Recent training (within last 13 months):
    Managing Within the Law
    Red Hat RH300
    VB.NET
    Perl
Advanced Perl (scheduled for late September)

For a copy of my resume, please email me at john3000 at cox dot net and

Thanks for your consideration!
