If you have Windows 95 or NT, you have a text-based ftp client. We use
it for production (as well as the ftp daemon on one of our servers), and
are relatively happy with the functionality.

If you want browsability, have you looked at the SAMBA/iX port? SMB is
as I understand it a Microsoft protocol, so you would be using Explorer
to browse your 3K using the protocol that Explorer knows and loves.
While I do not believe that it currently supports file codes, it sounds
like you want to see and probably get files that live on your 3K, so
this could work for you.
