How can I turn down such an invitation.  I read Guy's assessment a few
times before deciding to respond.  I also saw Art's post as well.  I was in
Germany this past week and was too busy and unable to easily respond
sooner.  The HP 3000 European 25 Anniversary party was a great success.  HP
did things in STYLE.

When you sell software, you rapidly become aware of the offerings from the
competition.  When you approach a company, you are invariably in a
comparison with other like products.  Since you go through this again and
again, facing the same products, after a while you know which products you
want to compete against, and which ones you do not.  I have been at Hicomp
for 4 years now, and I think that qualifies me as being able to talk
intelligently about backup products and the ones I want to compete against
and the ones I shy away from.  In the last 2 years, and especially this
past year, I have come to the realization that on UNIX and NT, there are NO
products against which HIBACK cannot compete and win.  I welcome them all.
 There are some products that I almost beg to compete with and Legato's
Networker is my favorite.  It really makes Hiback shine!

You can already use Hiback to backup MPE to other platforms such as NT and
UNIX and also to receive backups from other platforms such as UNIX, NT,
Novell, Windows and OS/2.  We have been offering this for a few years
already. Hicomp as a rule, does not pre-announce products.  When we
announce things, it is because they are nearing the end of beta test or
starting to roll out the product.  I will state here and now, that we are
working to support the autoloaders and stackers on the HP 3000.  We are
also working on many new enhancements to our MPE offering in order to bring
it up to the strength of our other platforms.  I will certainly let you
know as we near our goal.
