Assuming you want a fairly safe way to do this, I would recommend doing
a store file;*tape;purge command with your favorite back up package
including the store command that comes as part of FOS. This will purge
the file and give you a back up of it as well in case you really
shouldn't have purged it in the first place. And it is very easy to do.
