Well, you've thought about the nails and tacks, but you forgot the hammer. I remember a hammer has a claw! At least the did when I did framing construction, in a previous century!

I think I'll go back and revisit the claw-count.... now, since claws and
nails are essentially the same, do we count the humans in this version?
then again.... if we did, would fingernails count in addition to toenails?

--------------------

Well, not is it possible one or more of the men were a carpenter? If he
were, then the subject of nails would be important. If it were, then
we would have to ask, "Are these 10 penny nails, or a different variety?"
Then we would have to ask the size and weight of the nails, and whether
that would exceed the capacity fo the man to carry. Also, one or more
could be a carpet-layer, which then would allow the chance of carpet
tacks (a type of nail, not a government fee, or tax, on carpets) to
enter the picture.

All in all, adding in claws (Santa Claws?) or nails, just complicates
the question too much, and is best left out......
