This is only a small point -- as Randy undoubtedly well knows already -- but
 it may contribute to the confusion. The ^[&a0Y sequence only gets you to the
top of the CURRENTLY VISIBLE screen before it clears screen memory from the
top row of the currently visible screen on down. This sequence would leave
all text on the screen above the top row of currently visible screen
untouched. If you then pressed the home key on the terminal's keyboard, you
could potentially see many screenfulls (if "screenfulls" is a word) of text.
A full home-and-clear sequence would have to be^[&a0c0R^J (or ^]H^]J) for a
complete display memory clear.
