When accessed from an NFS/iX Client, all text files are converted to UNIX
stream files for maximum compatibility interoperability. In addition, NFS/iX
Clients are able to create MPE and UNIX files on the HP3000 server. NFS/iX
Server also allows Windows compatible PC computers running PC NFS client
software to access the HP3000 file system as though it was a local DOS disk
drive, such as WRQ's Reflection for 3000 Connection. In addition, NFS/iX
supports printing from PC clients to MPE/iX printers. It is also compliant
with Sun Microsystems' ONC/NFS Server technology.

Transparent Network File System Access

Quest Software's NFS/iX is a high-performance implementation of NFS for
MPE/iX. NFS (Network File System) is the most popular industry standard
networking service that provides transparent access to remote file systems.
File systems that provide flexible file sharing capabilities supporting
virtually every computer platform -- including MPE -- are scarce. In
addition, most systems that support more than one platform do so unreliably.
The NFS/iX Server maps a Unix file system onto the MPE/iX file system,
giving the HP3000 a UNIX file system look. Quest Software's NFS/iX(tm)
allows HP3000 systems to coexist with open systems in the same network by
allowing transparent access to and from its POSiX file system. NFS's
client/server design opens files for distributed access between different
systems without demanding network transfers. This simple file mount
accomplishes data availability between heterogeneous platforms. Open system
UNIX file access is possible from MPE operating systems with full POSIX
shell user commands.

Features/Benefits:
· Integrates multi-vendor systems, open systems, applications and their
peripherals
· Facilitates client server computing
· Maintains consistent files among a work group
· Reduces storage and data redundancy
· Improves data security
· Transforms an HP3000 into a file server for other NFS clients
· Allows MPE users to access files residing on other open systems supporting
NFS
· Supports shared printer access
· Simplifies backups
· Offers access to HP3000 printers

Subject: Question

Is there any possibility of transferring the data from HP3000 to a PC?

Thanks a million
