When ever the RC requests a tape like that from us they usually will extract
the information from the dump file into a flat file to eliminate all the
excess space.

Just in case you should need to store the diskdump to DDS to
send it to the HP RC for further analysis... In those cases I
usually create a copy with FCOPY that has a (typically) much
smaller size...

Why? The diskdump file is usually created large enough to
handle various system load situations and resulting memory
dump sizes. In most cases that file is only partially filled
and a STORE would waste a lot of time (and media) writing
all the zeros.

So I use BLDDUMP to LIST the diskdump info, examine the file
size actually used and then calculate the number of records
(plus some safety margin) to FCOPY;NEW;SUBSET to a new file
and then store that one.
