The price is still $7000!
You don't have to buy the add-on software. The vendors in question are
trying to help by offering their products at reduced prices ... but no
one will force you to buy them (well, I can't speak for Vladimir :).
Why don't we (Allegro) make SPLash! available for free, or something lower
than a 52% discount? Unlike HP (and some of the other vendors
participating), where only a small percentage of their
potential 3000 customers will be buying a 918DX, the *majority* of
our potential new customers are likely to buy a 918DX ... thus, we'd be
out of business if our major product was given away for free! Still, we're
enthusiastic about the program and trying to help by giving a big discount.
I assume that some of the other vendors fall into the same category.
We chose 52% because it's the same discount HP is giving for their software
that isn't bundled into the 918DX.

nope.
