I stumbled upon this HP site which happens to contain a Freeeware
version of Perl - along with Samba/ix, Java and other utilities. They do
warn that this is 'wholly untested software'. You'll find the site at:
    http://jazz.external.hp.com/src/perl/perl.html

The entire site is worth the time to explore.
