The Sportster is cheap, yes.  But, we've had 4 or 5 die, multiple
times.  Check out:  http://www.allegro.com/sportster.html for the story.
 
Key difference: the Courier is *designed* to be left turned on 24 hours
a day, the Sportster (and other cheap modems) aren't.>>
 
I'll second this (the recommendation, that is; I don't know about the
design). We have both kinds serving the RAS lines on our NT server, and
the Couriers are consistently more reliable than the Sportsters. The 100%
difference in price is probably not justified (because the Courier's $425
price isn't), but the $200 "savings" doesn't last very long at my
hassle-enhanced hourly rate. As usual, cheap is.
