There is an interesting article in PCWeek of 2 March about IE 4.0. It
seems that IE 4.0 consumes unrealistic amounts of memory to download pages,
whether text or graphics. I have stated a while back that I have elected
to stay away from IE 4.x, for a while at least. I have heard too many
horror stories on Win95-L and WinNT-L and from other sources. However, I
have also heard very good things about IE 4.0.
The bottom line is that right now NT 4.0 SP3 and Win95B both with IE 3.02
are working extremely well for us, with no crashes or GPFs or any downtime
whatsoever and I would hate to mess that up.
I have Windows 98 running on an older (non-critical) system, but I did not
enable IE 4.0's desktop takeover. I also have Win95a with IE 4.0 on
another non-critical system, and it crashes and has GPFs. It could be
because it is a 486 or that it needs a new install of Win95. Win95 has
been on there for almost 3 years without a re-install. Maybe it's time to
clean it up.
Kind regards,
Denys. . .
