Funny you should mention this, because I experienced exactly the same
kind of noisy ecosystem. Well, not quite, because I had an hp3000
995-500 (which whispers very pleasantly), an hp3000 918, an
hp3000 928, two Mac PowerBooks (15" and 17"), 3 iMacs, 1 Mac Cube,
two Mac towers, three Dell laptops (8500, 8600, and x300) and one
Dell Workstation 350. Cinderella and Cenicienta made quite a racket
compared to the other machines.
The most splendid (because of its power) in terms of super-quiet
behavior is the Dell Workstation 350, which I use to "drive" a
ViewSonic 2400 x 3840 flat-screen monitor. The monitor's fan (very
quiet in its own right) is actually noisier than the fan on its
assigned Dell Workstation -- Impressive!
Shouldn't HP be able to invent quieter fans than Apple and Dell?
