We have an application that we're trying to set up to use a bi-synchronous
serial connection to an IBM host, ideally with an HP3000 or an HP9000. The
problem we're running into though is that it would seem software to do this
is almost -- well -- non-existent.

HP themselves has a fairly nice SNA product, but it does 8800 emulation --
not 3270 -- and as far as I know, it doesn't support a bi-sync link. (It
also doesn't support connecting to anything other than JES or maybe CICS.)

There are other good products out there that will do TCP/IP connections, but
our problem is that most of the folks we want to talk to don't have network
connections yet, and can support only dial-up SNA or bi-sync only.

(Aside: It would seem that IBM connectivity is currently in a state of
change -- all the known products being created for them are network-based --
though most of the IBM users I've encountered still use
dial-up-something-or-other. Unfortunately this means that an apparent gap
exists wherein no products exist for connecting anything non-IBM TO an IBM,
unless the two systems are already on a network together. Catch-22.)

If anyone could suggest a software product to let an HP3000 or an HP9000
talk to an IBM over a SERIAL connection (SNA or Bi-sync) while emulating a
3270, PLEASE let me know.

Shucks -- If you can even recommend a PC product that'll do 3270 and bi-sync
I'll listen. I can always have a PC running Reflection, etc., act as a
mediator between the worlds of blue and beige, effectively giving me the
connection we want with only minor worries.

Many TIA for any assistance.

Curtis
