     Problem solved.  There was a pair that was reversed but I did not
     catch it the first round because it was not the pair that usually
     gets reversed and I physically could not see the pair which was
     reversed on the back of the patch panel.   One of our cabling
     experts reversed it on a whim and it worked.  Thanks for
     everyone's help and suggestions.  But I am still curious if any
     of the self testing or show status or something else can give a
     more descriptive cause of a problem (ie transmit not
     working/check for reversed pair, receive not working/check for
     reversed pair, no terminal (oops I left the toner in), etc!).
