No experience with unix or Sybase but we are successfully reading and
writing to Image databases with Powerbuilder via ODBC.
 
You will need to attach your Image databases to an ALLBASE dbe as all
SQL processing(as most Client/Server is) of Image is done through the
ALLBASE layer.
 
You will want to get the most recent versions of ALLBASE, Image/SQL,
and ODBC drivers from HP.  You may want to get an HP3000 person
involved.  There are a few tricks and setup considerations that they
can probably figure out more quickly.
 
You may also need the ALLBASE deployment kit from PowerSoft. I
presume you are running PowerBuilder Enterprise and already have the
Sybase deployment kit.
 
There is lots of good support from the RC for this.
