Wirt,

"xenophobia, scapegoatism, demogoguery, jingoism masking as patriotism, and
now to outright militancy" ???

Begrudging foreigners jobs to save my own isn't xenophobic. Nor is
encouraging people to buy American to save American jobs *jingoism* (hey, I
already looked it up to be sure.) We have not expressed anger at the
foreign workers, but at US companies and politicians.

No word-bending please.

Your point about it getting militant in a hurry is well taken.

All you people who might get militant under specific circumstances, SHUT UP
until you need to unite - otherwise, you won't be around (free and/or
alive) when you are needed! Practice this Mantra: "I used to have some
guns, but I sold them a long time ago to some guy named Jose."

Boy, it seems to be true. If my neighbor loses his job, it's a recession.
If
I lose my job, it's a depression.

This thread has progressed surprisingly rapidly from mild worry to
xenophobia, scapegoatism, demogoguery, jingoism masking as patriotism, and
now to outright militancy. Welcome to the Germany of the 1930's.

Civilization is probably a thinner veneer than most of us would care to
think.
