Marcus,

I have hooked up a couple 989's and 979's to SAN's in differents ways.

There is the A5814A SCSI to Fibre bridge from HP, it is expensive and only has a 1 fiber to 1 SCSI connection... hence you need 8 of them (8 SCSI channels is the most and best layout for a 989 backplan). You should also get the HSC IO expansion, and two Opel card cages to connect to.

I have also used a Crossroads SA-40 switch, however, you would still need a Mod 20 to boot from (Mod 20 allows hardware mirroring of the system volume set). Cost is about 15K.

Finally, if you are planning on staying on the HP for any period of time... Native fibre IS the way to go.

Has anybody any experience of attatching a 9x9KS server to a Fibre SAN?

We are looking into the possibility of connecting a 989KS server to a new 2Gb
fibre SAN. I believe that using a Fibre to SCSI switch may be a possibility.
Replacing the 989KS with an N-Class is the other option available to us so
that we can do it natively.

Many thanks in advance.
