Jim,

The "UNKNOWN" state just means that this disk didn't ever have a volume label
assigned to it; as you should expect from a brand-new drive.  Check the on-line
help at :HELP DSTAT OPERATION for a more formal explanation.

So, to answer your question, you need to do a NEWVOL command to that new disk
drive to add it to the system volume set and it should come up.
