Ok, but first you have to tell us how you got an HP3000/MPE job without
experience when this list is full of out-of-work MPE professionals [I was
going to further qualify that as "american" MPE professionals, but then I
noticed you're working for LEGO, which I recall is not an american
company -- it's late, and the only thing that comes to mind is "norwegian,
or thereabouts..."]

[...] there is only a single parameter that differentiates the jobs.

VESoft makes a product called "streamx" which is designed to solve exactly
the problem you're describing: make changes to an existing job stream "at
submission time" rather than make [permanent] changes via the editor [or
some other program] each and every time you change a (simple) parameter.

However, I'm not entirely sure STREAMX will work for your problem -- the
first line of your description indicates that you already have an
"application" that is performing these edits automatically, but there
doesn't appear to be a way to automate the program. Even if I were to
simulate what this program does by just using streamx, I have no idea if
your "application" does anything to prepare for the job [such as updating
values in a database]

However to the however: many PC-based terminal emulators have "scripting"
capabilities [Reflection, in particular, uses Microsoft's "Visual Basic for
Applications (VBA)"] I could devise a PC-based "script" that logs on, runs
the application and/or menu, and "submits keystrokes" to the program on the
HP. I could even program the terminal emulator to "wait for" an indication
the job completed (sucessfully) before initiating the next report.

Now, since "the internet" pretty much eliminates geographical boundaries for
problems like this, I'll put in an offer to work for you folks "at
prevailing wages" with the caveat that I'll be "telecommuting" from
California, USA. I figure a few back-and-forth e-mails to learn the
specifics of your applications, then I should be able to log on remotely and
build you a better report scheduling program OR you could e-mail me your
jobstreams and I'll do the work here... There -- that should satisfy the
unemployment department's requirement that I "actively sought work" this
week...
