There indeed is such a thing as a 2.8 MB floppy. It is very rare and not
very popular. I believe it is/was a Sony product. You will not be able to
read that floppy (if indeed it is what the user says it is) in a regular
floppy.

I have a 120 MB floppy on my laptop. It reads/writes 1.44 MB floppies and
120 MB floppies. It does not read/write 2.88 floppies.

Kind regards,

Denys. . .

Subject: Off Topic: 2MB Floppy

Just when I think I'm making headway in understanding PC's, someone
throws me another curve. This time the UL inspector here is trying
to copy a floppy disk (at home) and asked me for assistance. It
seems he is trying to copy a 2MB floppy. I didn't even know there
was such an animal. Anyway, what is required to copy these disks?
A special disk drive? Or just another 2MB disk? Will a standard
(1.4MB) floppy drive read/write these 2MB disks correctly?

Thanks for any assistance.
