Greg,
I do not take offense at your original comment as I am sure no offense was
intended.

My objection is that for many years the MPE community has had to beg, plead
and wait for technology, functionality and support that has come to the UX
side as a birthright. I am truly happy for the UXers and hope they get more,
bigger, better and faster technologies. Many in the MPE community are
impatient with the trickle-down from UX.

There seems to be an attitude on the part of many hardware, software and
application developers that we can just drop our MPE platforms that have
served without fail for years and move to a UNIX based solution because it
has some feature we would like. I say to them, do not flatter yourselves. Go
ask a manufacturer how quickly they can convert from MANMAN or an HMO from
AMISYS. Ask the System Managers, DBAs, programmers and users if they are
dissatisfied with the dependability of the e 3000 hardware, the overall low
maintenance system administration needed by MPE or the data integrity under
Image/SQL. While some succumb to the lure of the promise of expanded
capabilities, almost universally, you will receive a resounding reply, "We
like the functions and features we have but give us more."

There is a gap in hardware and software. CSY has made great strides to close
the technology gap. Obviously, they can not work quickly enough to satisfy
the us but that is to be expected. I applaud them and hope they continue the
good work.

The opinions expressed herein are my own and not necessarily those of my
employer.
