Hi all,
We are reconsidering our disk strategy on a new 996 we will be recieving.
The plan from management is to use high availability arrays. In considering
this we have a couple of options with options within themselves. This is an
area I'm alittle weak on, so I look to your advice/experience.
Option A.
Model 12 disk array (auto raid). I have heard mention that the auto function
can add additional overhead. Although I understand the functionality is to
dynamically configure the raid level thats best for the way the storage is
being used (which would increase performance?).
Model 20 is straight up raid 5. There seems to be a problem noted with the
model 12. It could loose data (or so some threads would indicate) when
shutdown. So I'm leaning in this direction as we don't need problems.
The only other option is to use 4.3 gbyte drives instead of 9 gbyte drives
and spread the IO over more channels.
Again, I welcome your comments. There are obviously more concerns, but if
you have experience with these mechanisms, I would like to hear from you.
Thanks!
