Well, that is a fairly self-centered way of looking at things, don't you
think? While I am as self-centered as the next guy (hey, I *like* regular
paychecks!) I think those of us who are non-contractors have a different
sort of commitment to fulfill. That commitment is to our employers. A
commitment to do the best with what we have. A commitment to maximize the
return of the funds delegated to our control. Now, if all I know is
HPe3000, then that's what I'm going to use, right? So, I continually
educate myself about the alternatives available. Now, I'm no expert, not
even on the HPe3000, but I try to know enough about the alternatives so I
can give the pros and cons of any solution proposed. So when the controller
proposed going to Solomon accounting on an NT server, I was able to give the
pros and cons to the CFO and then let him decide what we were going to do.
In this case, we went with the NT solution. That wasn't my favorite, but
you live with it and go on. (If you can't trust and support your boss, it's
time to look for a new job).

So, I try to maintain an open mind and evaluate the alternatives. If there
is a solution available on the HPe3000 that has all the functionality of the
other solutions, then my natural inclination is to favor that solution
because it's more cost-effective to be able to leverage our knowledge base
and existing hardware, plus it's easier to interface to the other
applications already extant on the HPe3000.

I'm not favoring blind allegiance to the HPe3000, but there is a ditch on
both sides of the road.
