Here are four compelling reasons to get Samba/iX running on your
HP3000.(Well one really)

If you co.-exist with NT, and you regularly move files from HP3000 to
NT, Samba/iX will do this twice as fast as FTP:--

Moving 3.4MB from HP3000 to NT
Samba Trial 1: 683kb/s Trial 2: 684kb/s
FTP Trial 1: 298kb/s Trial 2: 344kb/s

Curiously, during the 'get' trials (from NT to HP3000), FTP outperformed
SAMBA by about 50%.

In HP3000 to UNIX (HP9000), ftp consistently outperformed Samba by about
50%, but then Samba was also running on the HP9000 end.
In these trials, both systems were "quiet".

To be able to "mount" the HP3000 as a share in a windows network is a
luxury that we used to pay for dearly, and now it's free.

I take this opportunity to congratulate Lars (and all who helped) with
this superb effort. Much value has been added to my favourite computing
platform of all time :)

Regards

Neil
