There is a facility in suprtool to assign a record number to a record.
O <filea>,num,data
Your file will be the same, except there will be a type J2 counter in the first 4 bytes
Link files won't work for this, so you will have to redefine your file using a series of
defs the first one will be
def j2ctr,1,4,double
Then create a (fileb) with the counter incremented by one
Now you can use suprlink to link the two files together by j2ctr.
