There came a day that we had to replace our system board on the HP3000.
The HP CE came out and got things going with an new system board, used SS_Config, got everything going and left.
About 9:30AM the next day, I got this call that inspections were being scheduled for Wednesday, instead of Tuesday, and the clock was ahead by about 3 hours.
I did a :SETCLOCK, no problem.
An hour later, got another call.
Hmmm.
Started checking the time.
I was gaining 12 minutes every hour. Precisely. Exactly. For every minute, we gained 12 seconds.
Came to find out that the CE had set the system board clock to 100 megahertz instead of 120 megahertz.
CE came in that night; changed the clock; everything was OK. (Could have made for a shorter week!)

Anyway, that's probably not it.

Do a :SHOWCLOCK and see if, perchance, someone did a :SETCLOCK, and the setting is still in progress?
Had that happen once or twice (I'm not the one who did it).
If so, do a :SETCLOCK ;CANCEL
