Yup, modulo typos.

Folks with long memories may remember that you used to get tarballs of freevt3k from ftp.telamon.com.  I am pretty sure that Randy Medd at Telamon was using Telamon's development/test systems to port freevt3k to a bunch of platforms that are mostly of interest to retrocomputing enthusiasts these days (e.g. A-UX, AlphaOSF, BSDI, SCO, SGI, SunOS, and I'm probably missing a few out because I just don’t know, I mean why would anyone want to run this on modern VMS these days?).

I want it on macOS, James Byrne wants it on FreeBSD, Bruce Toback wanted it on Linux which is a bit different these days but still there; and I think we all have different ideas about what "it" is and I have some different ideas about what I want out of it.

There's an NS VT client, but it's more a datacomm subroutine library than a program.  I think it has got some incorrect ideas about how NS VT works, or maybe I do.

There's an rlogin client, similarly more a datacomm subroutine library than a program.

There’s a way to connect to a serial port.

There's a text mode HP terminal emulator, really more of an escape-sequence translator I think, that assumes you're running it from something VT52-ish or VT100-ish.  It knows how to use the NS VT client to connect to a 3000 but not how to do rlogin or serial.  This is what you get with the "freevt3k" executable that is built, and is what I think James is running.

There's a somewhat more proper HP terminal emulator that is built with an X11 client to provide an X11-based HP terminal emulator.  It knows how to use the rlogin and serial I/O features.  This is what you get with the "xhpterm" executable that is built, and is what I’d like on macOS and maybe FreeBSD and Linux (I do all three somewhat).

I’d also like "it" to do Telnet for connection to the SIMH HP3000, and/or use a pty to get a local shell prompt from which I could run telnet or cu or whatever.
