I'm not sure if any ordinary CD/W drive would work in an HP 3000,
unless you write your own software to drive it.

I.e., *how* do you want to use it? Define it as a single disk
volume set? Use it as a STORE target?

For the single-disk volume set solution, you might talk to
Bering (try [log in to unmask])...a couple of years ago they
were showing a combo hard drive / CD-Writer. You'd configure the
hard drive as a single disk volume set, put whatever groups you
want on it, and put whatever files you want. Eventually, you pushed
a button and the drive got backed up via the CD Writer. Later (e.g.,
months later), you could take the CDROM and restore it to the drive,
and mount the volumeset and use the files. One user was considering
doing STORE-to-disk, with the STORE disk file going to that hard
drive. Of course, that limits you to 700 MB or so at a time.
