Duane's answer implies that Protos is a compiled language and produced
object code you could move from the development box to the A series. Right?

Here ya go:
1. Buy used 918 for development
2. Use 3rd party h/w support
3. Buy minimal s/w support from hp
4. Xfr protos license to this box
Note that Cognos customers have been doing this for years :-)
