The EDTCT files are COBOL files and have a line numbering system at the end
of each line. If you open these files with the un-numbered option it should
work.

I've done this in the past with other files that contained a minimum of 8
digits at the end of each line and if the numbers were not in numerical
order I would get the same message you are getting.

Subject: [HP3000-L] QUAD NMPRG: lost

We lost our NMPRG version of QUAD and have only PROG versions. We
arelooking for a recent version of QUAD with file code NMPRG and which
does not inaccurately report:

  Read error on text file QUADTEXT
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
  Error in procedure QKGETREC
  Line numbers out of sequence on file
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

This can happen on any numbered file, but happens most frequently on files
with file code
EDTCT.

Thanks.
