I got a private reply which is so good that I want to share its
concepts with our mutual friends on HP3000-L.

Ahem, ahem... :-)

All I was trying to convey was a feeling of "oh, boy".

There is no such thing as a free lunch, under any circumstances.
Some times, though, lunches may become too expensive in terms of the
time and attention required. It is a choice that we all have to make
and, for sure, some people ENJOY bestowing lavish amounts of time and
attention on whatever turns them on.

The question is, does EVERYONE get turned on by the same thing? I
don't claim to have an answer. All I claim is what I wrote, that the
more "sophisticated" things become, the more lavish time and
attention we must bestow upon them just to keep them afloat. This is
a good thing for some people and a bad thing for other people. In
this particular case, a lot of people (myself included) are still
scratching their heads (i.e., the jury is still out for all of us).

Oh, boy!
