All,

I am hoping this will turn out to be a true meteor storm - that is, have
over 1,000 visible events an hour. If I'm lucky I may see more than twice
that. This may literally be a once in a lifetime event. It's just after
5 in the morning and overcast here in the Silicon Valley. Can't see a
single star through the overcast and urban light scattering. In the name
of "science" I'm packing up the kids (or my sister's kids at least) and
guide-dog-in-training and heading towards the Southern CA desert and camp
out on one of the BLM tracks down there. The weather maps and forcasts
show northern and central CA overcast this weekend but everything away from
the coast in the south is clear. I'm going to play it by eye and go as
far south and east as we need to get clear skies. Death Valley and
surrounding areas are quite pleasant this time of year.

An option for the SF Bay Area bound. Consider this viewing site which is
due west of Hollister along the I-5 corridor.

Hint: The radiant for this event will be towards the east. OK I'm going
back to bed.
