We are still on hardware maintenance, can't live without it (critical 24 x7
operation).
OT :
Welcome to the world of mission creep....
Once IS Managers were just administrative, now you are:
- A SE, you now must upgrade the operating system...
- A CE, you have to install new hardware, drives, printers, etc...
- A Network Manager, handling e3k, NT, Novell, Unix servers, and related
hubs, and routers...
- Telecommunications, handling phones, pagers, and the various switches...
- A PC technician, know how to install PCs and their OS (DOS, W 3.xx, 95,
98, and Mac)
- Program in one of the following languages: Visual Basic, C++, Cobol,
Fortran, or what ever
language of the day may be.
- You must also know everything about any object that may remotely
resembles an electronic device....
and know how to program it, install it, interface with it, and fix it.
If you can do this, and still reduce your budget by 20%, you are an IS
Manager my son...
Kinda makes you long for the old days of dumb terminals don't it...
Just my humble opinion...
