hello all,

I have an old 917 running 5.5 (not on maint). It has been giving me
problems loading tapes into the internal dds1 tape drive (HPC1503B). I have
to go as far as rebooting the system before I can seem to get the tape to
load and not eject. After doing the "RS" command after the control B, it
will seem to take the tape 1 or 2 times before it stops.

My question is, is this a tape drive problem or something else? If I
replace the tape drive, will it fix the problem? I hate to buy a tape drive
and not have it fix the problem.

TIA
