What's not clear, at least not to me, is whether or not moderator Marcia
Kramer * knew * that this was bogus. I am disappointed that two candidates
for Senate did not recognize an illegitimate bill number the same way young
children know what a telephone number does and does not look like (has
anyone asked for a comment from Dan Quayle?). But if Marcia Kramer didn't
know she was pitching a knuckle ball, she should be busted down to 3AM
weather girl on a UHF station where the town population in the broadcast
area is lower than the farm animal population. Is this the best we can do?
(has anyone asked for a comment from Walter Kronkite?).

What I have seen of such recent "debates" could benefit greatly by an
injection of more humor, from any candidate. I've only seen one exchange
that struck me as deliberately funny, in contrast to several missed
opportunities. So I would have loved to read that either of the two
participants had replied, "You're kidding, right?", and gone from there to
inject much needed humor and a much needed dose of reality into what is now
one of the more memorable moments.

Or maybe we need more knuckle ball questions, just to keep the wannabes on
their toes. Taking these candidates too seriously just encourages them. Does
government employment of Roswell aliens in the high tech sector violate the
intent of the Immigration and Naturalization Act?

I hate to admit that Al Franken was right about much of anything, but at
some point, when George W refers to the accomplishments of the previous Bush
administration, Gore should respond, "Governor, I knew George Bush. I worked
with George Bush. And you, sir, are no George Bush.".

I don't know if the air is dry in here,
but can we get a glass of water for the Vice President?
He seems to be wheezing...
